The aim of this course is to give a basic knowledge and understanding of caring for young children (aged 0-15yrs 11months). You will cover children's growth, learning and development, as well as units to help you to develop personal skills which can be used later in all forms of employment. The course is for anyone who wants to develop parenting and life skills. You will cover a range of core subjects and personal development subjects including- Practical Health and Safety when with Young Children, Finding out about Forest Schools, Craft activities for Young Children, Growth and Development of Young Children, Listening to and Talking with a Young Child, Understanding Learning and Development through play, Understanding Personal Identity, Self Development, Science Activities for Young Children, Technology Activities for Young Children, Music Activities for Young Children, Supporting Babies for Play, Healthy Eating for Families, Confidence Building for the Young Child through Play, Interview Skills. As part of the course you will also participate in enterprise activities that will link to work experience, as well as having the opportunity to enrich your study programme with trips. These will be discussed as part of your tutorial sessions. Guest speakers who work within the Childcare sector will also be invited in to the College to provide you with an insight into the skills and qualities that you will need to progress through the levels and into employment. As a Boston College learner you will have access to the library, bistro, refectory, IT facilities and Moodle.
