This practical, work-related course provides a broad foundation in Computing studies and a firm basis for specialism in Computer Networking and IT Technical Support. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare you for employment. You may leave the course at the end of the first year with 90 credits, however successful completion of the full 2 year course is equivalent to 3 A-levels and which will therefore attract UCAS points to enable you to apply for a place at University. The Extended Diploma is made up of 18 units- 8 core units plus 10 specialist units. The structure of the programme provides an innovative and creative curriculum, covering core areas such as Computer Systems, Information Systems, Computer Networks, Managing Networks, Communication Technologies, IT Technical Support, IT Systems Troubleshooting and Repair and Communications and Employability Skills. Among the specialist units, you will study two CCNA units which are valuable networking qualifications recognised by employers. The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, Individual Learning Plans, external visits, events and speakers. In addition to the Extended Diploma, other courses may be offered which will help develop the learner, widen their knowledge and ensure the learning experience is diverse and exciting. We are one of the very few providers in the county to offer such a comprehensive programme.
