Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of chemistry and how they relate to each other through the study of units such as Atoms and Reactions, Electrons, Bonding and Structure, The Periodic Table, Chains, Energy, Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Halogenoalkanes, Equilibria, Energetics and Elements. The AS year is divided into three units- 1 Atoms Bonds and Groups- Atoms and reactions- Electrons, Bonding and structure- The Periodic Table 2. Chains, Energy and Resources- Basic concepts and hydrocarbons- Alcohols, halogenoalkanes and analysis- Energy- Resources 3. Practical Skills in Chemistry 1- A qualitative, quantitative and evaluative task. This AS (practical skills) unit is teacher assessed and externally moderated by OCR. The A2 year will run on the condition that there are 10 or more students continuing the course. The year is divided into a further 3 units- 4- Rings, Polymers and Analysis- Rings, acids and amines- Polymers and synthesis- Analysis 5- Equilibria, Energetics and Elements- Rates, equilibrium and pH- Energy- Transition elements 6- Practical Skills in Chemistry 2. You will have access to well-equipped laboratories and computer facilities during your course. You will also have a Personal Tutor to help support your studies.
