Who is the course for? Any one who wishes to deepen their understanding and appreciation of film, both practically and academically. The subject develops creativity, business skills, observation and critical analysis. What can it lead to? This course prepares you for a higher education qualification or employment. Film Studies can offer a valuable body of knowledge and a range of experience for people looking for careers in communications. Like other Humanities subjects, it encourages fluency in argument and expression, and a critical intelligence that can be useful assets in a range of future careers including all types of business, marketing, journalism, project management, IT and teaching. What will I study? Theory lessons will explore the effects of cinema on audiences, film language, history, and business practice. Key topics are Film narrative, style, critical analysis, Hollywood, British and World cinema. On the practical side, you will be introduced to professional script writing, directing, storyboarding, camera, editing and performance techniques and make a short movie. You will also devise a creative research project choosing your own path of research.
