Biomedical Science Higher National Diploma

The BTEC Higher National Diploma/Certificate in Biomedical Science is designed to prepare you for employment in the science sector. This course is suitable for those who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work or who wish to progress further to higher education upon completion of the course. This course follows the Edexcel BTEC HND and HNC Diploma in Applied Sciences (QCF). To be awarded an Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC, you must achieve a minimum of 120 credits and for Level 5 HND must achieve a minimum 240 credits. The HNC in Biomedical Science provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the applied biology sector and also offers particular specialist emphasis through the choice of specialist units. The HND in Biomedical Science qualification prepares you for employment in the applied biology sector and will be suitable for those who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work. Some students may wish to make the commitment required by this qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment in the biological sciences or progress to higher education. Other students may want to extend the specialism they followed on the Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC programme. Progression from this qualification may be into or within employment in the biological sciences and related industries where you may work towards membership of the Society of Biology. It will also enable progression to an undergraduate degree or further professional qualification in a related area.
