For students who want to develop their interest in Illustration and to create a portfolio of work for submitting to commissioning editors. The course is drawing based with an opportunity also to use printmaking and computer facilities. There is an emphasis on children's book and editorial illustration, and students will be encouraged to enter various illustration competitions to get the feel of working to real briefs with real deadlines. There will be two extended days of location drawing each term, for research on projects. Students will be encouraged to pursue their own interests as illustrators with advice on selecting, writing and editing text. There are links with editors and agents in publishing and students who wish to go on to further study will be helped to apply to MA Illustration courses.
