Learn to Draw Absolute Beginners

UPDATED 20150414 13:17:40

This course is aimed at complete beginners who have never drawn or who have not drawn for many years or have no confidence in their drawing and need help and encouragement. You will be taught the absolute basics, learning about line, texture and tone. You will also learn how to assess proportion and will be shown ways of doing this. We will mainly be finding ways of seeing and observing but we will also be experimenting with various media such as pencil, charcoal, pastel, conte and pen. You tutor will demonstrate methods. We will initially draw from still life and natural form such as rocks, shells and fruit or vegetables. Later on the course we try some experimental ways of drawing looking at other artists work for inspiration and ideas for techniques. We will also draw from the human form and from landscape as well as architecture and interiors. The course is basically a one-year course although if some people start late in the year they can be absorbed. Some return for a second year, but you are encouraged to try other courses after one year of Beginners Drawing. Most of your materials can be bought in the school shop but you will be given a list of materials needed when you join the course.
