Signs and symbols from 1-4 plus the additional vocabulary are taught through practical learning sessions. The lectures cover current research into sign use; symbol design themes, the use and purpose of the Makaton Language Programme and to provide students with an overview of alternative systems of communication. At the end of the course participants should be able to use the early stages of the Makaton vocabulary with children, students and other service users(individuals with a learning disability or communication difficulty).
