This course will explore early drawing practice during the time of the Italian Renaissance, specifically from the early 1400s - c.1520. The focus will be on three geographical centres: Florence, Venice and Rome and the drawings by artists including Pisanello, Bellini, Lippi, Uccello, Gozzoli, Ghiberti, Pollaiuolo, Mantegna, Verrocchio, Botticelli, Leonardo, Michaelangelo and Raphael. The drawings we will be looking at are housed mostly in the UK - at the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal Library Windsor, museums in Oxford - and therefore can be visited by prior arrangement.
