4CKA7016A - Vikings In Europe & The British Isles The Scandinavians of the Viking Age were supreme adventurers and colonists and the recent highly successful Vikings Life and Legend exhibition at the British Museum, together with recent metal detecting and other archaeological finds, has only added to their aura. During this short course we will be examining both the historical and archaeological source material with the aim of shedding new light on this fascinating period of European history as well as examining in more detail some of the evidence for Viking settlement in our area. This course will build on the earlier Dark Age course presented by John Trippier and Chris Robson's recent Viking World presentation but will be of equal interest to newcomers who just wish to know more the Viking Age. The tutor, John Trippier, is a professional archaeologist who has excavated both at home and abroad as well as teaching at various institutions in the north-west where he has specialised in this period.
