The trulli of Alberobello form the city of limestone dwellings found in the southern region of Puglia. The trulli are made of roughly worked limestones collected from neighbouring fields. Characteristically, they feature pyramidal, domed or conical roofs built up of corbelled limestone slabs. It is one of the best preserved and most homogeneous urban areas of this type in Europe. Its special features, and the fact that the buildings are still occupied, make it unique. This is a two hour session in which we will learn about the history, tradition and current use of these fascinating houses. We will examine them together discovering the meaning of mythological and religious symbols painted in white ash on the roofs.
