An accredited course running for 2 hours per week over 8 weeks, covering two units- Unit 1 - Computer Basics covers the following 1) Computer Basics - learning about basic computer jargon and terminology, how to use the computer and gaining those mouse and keyboard skills. 2) Introduction To The Desktop - understand the Desktop set-up and how to use the icons, learn how to move around within a Windows environment, create folders for your work and save your files. 3) Introduction To Documents - using the Word Processing package Microsoft Word, learn how to type in text, apply simple text formatting, use copy, cut and paste to edit and move text within a document, save and print your work. Unit 2 - Online Basics covers the following 4) The World Wide Web - learn about the Internet and World Wide Web and how to search for specific information, download and print results. 5) E-Mail - learn how to compose and send a message, open a message and send a reply, set up an address book, and stay safe online.

A pen pencil and notepad would be beneficial. Learners are also asked to bring two forms of ID with them - one photographic and one a utility bill or bank statement showing confirmation of address. This is required for registration purposes for the British Computer Society (BCS). The Computer and Online Basics Workbook will be provided at the start of the first lesson, once the registration process for BCS has been completed.
