Health and Social Care (Health Sciences) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

If you want to develop your knowledge, skills and practical experience to help you prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career and further study in health or social care this health and social care course including health sciences could be the one for you. The course will provide you with a good foundation for many degree courses including diagnostic radiography, oncology and radiotherapy and midwifery. It helps develop study skills, self- confidence and communication skills through group work, role plays and presentations. The Health and Social Care (Health Sciences) BTEC Extended Diploma is made up of 18 units of study. You will learn about developing effective communication, professional development, equality, diversity and rights, life- stage development, psychology and sociology for health and social care, anatomy and physiology, promoting health education, nutrition and public health. In addition you will study health science units in physiology of fluid balance, biochemistry and science for health. Work experience is a compulsory part of the course. The one day a week placement, arranged with you, is tailored to your future employment or higher education progression. You will also be required to devote time outside of taught classes to produce coursework such as assignments, written reports and presentations to set deadlines. Course enrichment includes a range of trips, visits and activities to support coursework and career/higher education progression. These may include a major incident triage care experience with the NHS and fire service. Visits are arranged to places such as health centres, Alton Towers (linked to health and safety), secure hospitals (linked to mental health awareness), the Houses of Parliament (linked to equality and diversity) and London Medical Museums (linked to anatomy and physiology).
