This course has been designed to help you make those later employment decisions by focussing on course themes that will develop your practical and theoretical skills for Business, Software Development, Networking and ICT Systems Support. On this course you will learn how to set up, use, customise and maintain a computer system or systems. You will need to understand the components that make up a computer system examining how computers work through a range of practical activities and knowledge based lessons. You will learn how to develop business applications for end users using databases and spread sheets as well as writing computer programmes. You will learn how networks operate and through the use of Microsoft products set up and manage them. Students will also develop skills in graphic design and web site creation. IT practitioners will need to become skilled manipulators and users of information to ensure that organisations become more efficient and succeed in achieving their aims and objectives. As part of the course you will plan and implement an IT project. The constantly changing IT environment requires IT practitioners to be routinely involved in projects that involve the introduction of new systems or redevelopment of old systems. The project will help you develop skills that will be useful in the work place. As part of enrichment you will develop skills in control systems and robotics. This will give you the opportunity to programme and develop your skills in a range of computer controlled systems. This could help build your knowledge if you are looking at further education in robotics or metatronics. In addition to the content above, specialist modules are used to extend and further develop technical understanding and application. Approximately 10% is externally tested 30% of the course is theory and contextual work and 60% is practical.
