As an administrator working at level 2 you will be carrying out routine duties such as mail handling, making/receiving telephone calls, using office equipment, filing (paper based and electronic), dealing with visitors and reception work. On the medical course you will become familiar with medical terminology and use medical reference books in order to assist with drug spellings, diseases and disorders relating to different specialities. You will learn about creating and keying in business documents such as letters, long manuscripts and minutes of meetings and practical tasks including managing diaries, arranging travel and helping with the organisation of meetings and events, all of which will have a medical focus. You will learn about legislation, data protection, health and safety and copyright. At level 2 you will aim to increase keying in speeds to 35/40 words per minute (wpm). Audio production practises the skill of listening to dictation and producing documents and is a requirement for many secretarial vacancies within the NHS. In addition, it is possible to do agency audio work on a piece rate production basis and work from home when competent with this method of transcription.
