This course is an introduction to basic joinery and woodwork skills, designed for people wishing to take up a career within the building industry as a carpenter and joiner. Students must start at level 1 to gain the necessary skills before progressing to level 2. You will need to bring your own safety boots, wood working tools for workshop sessions and classroom equipment for theory sessions. All other equipment will be provided. You need to attend regularly and be on time for every lesson. Theory lessons covering the required technology are classroom based, giving you the opportunity for taking notes to aid your studies. Practical lessons take place in the Carpentry and Joinery workshops and give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to pass the assessments. Topics will include •Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction •Knowledge of Information, quantities and communicating with others •Knowledge of building methods •Produce basic woodworking joints •Maintain and use Carpentry and Joinery hand tools •Maintain and use Carpentry and Joinery portable power tools Approximately 40% of the course is theory and 60% is practical.
