The Diploma in H+SC we deliver is part of a wider award, an Apprenticeship in H+SC which includes the main diploma, a technical certificate and a dual award of Maths and English Functional Skill award. The Diploma itself at level 3 forms the mandatory minimum requirement for people working in the Care and Health and Social Care sector. It is made up of 9 mandatory units and between 5 and 10 optional units which all carry a specific number of QCF points. The mandatory units make up 24 credits and are the same for both awards. To achieve a level 2 you must make up 46 credits and to achieve a level 3 you must make up 58 credits with the optional units. The course length is between 18 and 24 months Who is the qualification for - The Level 3 award is geared more towards lone workers, i.e. domiciliary workers or Senior Care workers in a home setting. What the qualification covers The mandatory units cover health and safety, communication, self-development, reflective practices and other core areas of care. The optional units cover a wide range of specialised areas. A candidate can take the generic care pathway which means all optional units are open to them or they can specialise in Dementia, Domiciliary Care Specific, Health Specific for Social Care environments or Learning Disabilities Specific depending on the job role they have.
