To deliver sound practical skills and technical knowledge in managing horses in a range of situations. There is a strong emphasis on developing riding and practical skills through training at the Equine Centre. Training is underpinned by lectures in theory units to broaden students£ technical and industry knowledge, including business management. The course also includes opportunities for students to attend trips to equine related venues. £Understand and promote animal health £Plan and monitor animal feeding £Prepare horses for presentation £Principles of horse behaviour and welfare £Riding and exercising horses £ £Principles of equitation £Select, fit and evaluate horse tack and equipment £Animal anatomy and physiology £Riding horses £Understand the principles of animal biology £Equestrian teaching £Investigative project Work experience Work experience is an important part of the course with regular duties at the Equine Centre plus a three week period of work experience in the second year of the course. The course also includes preparation for the BHS Stage 1 Care Exam and a Certificate in Progression which allows the development of necessary skills required for further education and employment.
