A two year course to complete A Level, or one year to complete AS Level. The course will deliver opportunities for exploring classic literary texts from novels, to plays to poetry, by authors such as such as Shakespeare£s King Lear and William Blake£s Songs of Innocence and Experience. The course also uses classic texts as a basis for creative writing for the coursework, which will give the opportunity to explore a range of literary perspectives such as feminism or a specific period of history. Both lecturers who teach on this programme have studied English Literature and creative writing to degree level. Personal interests include Georgian and Victorian literature, contemporary theatre, romantic poetry, children£s writing, fantasy / sci-fi and the gothic. It is vital that you have a desire to read a range of literary texts, from various periods including prose, poetry and drama. An interest in Shakespeare and the classics is desirable as is a real enthusiasm for exploring literature from different perspectives. This course offers theatre trips to see performances of contemporary plays and visits from authors.
