To provide the fitness, skills and preparation for a career in the public and uniformed services. An interest and aptitude for developing leadership skills and team work is essential, along with some experience of personal involvement in activities such as the Scouts Association or youth service activities. The course is designed to provide a realistic expectation of a career in the services and demands a sufficient level of fitness throughout the course, teamwork and communication skills, and participation in a wide range of practical activities. Units within the programme cover: £Employment in public uniformed services £Public service skills £Physical preparation, health and lifestyle £Sport and recreation £Adventurous outdoor pursuits and expeditions £Nautical studies, including an optional Powerboat course £Understanding the impact of war, and crime and its effects on society £Planning and partaking in expeditions £Regular visits and contact with uniformed services, including the Fire Service, Westminster, Paramedics, Royal Marines, forensics examiners and CSI. During your time at College, there is an opportunity to gain qualifications in industry related skills, such as RYA Dinghy Sailing Awards, BCU Kayaking Stars, BCU First Aid and Community Sports Leaders Award that will contribute to your employability and will support your CV. The cost of these additional qualifications and trips amounts to approximately £300 to £400.
