The two year course aims to equip individuals for success in employment and to develop knowledge, understanding and the practical skills required in the agricultural industry at an operational level. The first year is a balance of knowledge and practical skills development, with the second year concentrating on further specialist knowledge in more detail. Current practice and reference to the current industry environment is always core to the course. The Diploma offers a range of study units which provide a broad-based education in agriculture, and allows students the opportunity to specialise in machinery, or crops and livestock. £Areas of study could be chosen from £Chassis and engines £Farm and horticultural machinery used for field work and harvesting £Diagnosis and rectification of faults £Arable crop and grassland production £Livestock husbandry including sheep, dairy, beef and pig production £Estate skills and environmental issues £Machinery operation, maintenance and workshop practices During your time at college you will be offered the opportunity to take skills qualifications in a range of practical areas which may include operation of rough terrain lift trucks, All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), livestock welfare and pesticide spray application. Two periods of work placements lasting for three weeks will provide practical experience at work, developing the skills learnt at College.
