Course Description: During this course you will develop your employability skills – skills for seeking, applying for and being interviewed for work or training. This is a four week full-time course for Work Programme clients, leading to the Ascentis Level 1 Certificate in Employability Skills. Most participants are referred to the course, either via Job Centre Plus or a Work Programme provider, but the course is open to anyone who is looking for work and in receipt of a state benefit (including National Insurance credits only) Please bring photographic proof of identity to your first session. If you don’t have photographic ID please bring two other forms of identity eg Bank card, Bank statement, utility bill, Council tax bill Attendance at ALL sessions is essential. If you miss a session you may be asked to leave the course. What will I learn? • Different types of work and working patterns (including input on volunteering opportunities) ? Update your job search skills ? Reasons for selecting jobs ? The importance of workplace values, rights and responsibilities ? The importance of safe working practices ? The skills and attributes that are needed for success in work ? Evaluate your current skills and personal attributes ? The skills and attributes needed for different types of work and plan how to develop them (including input from National Careers Service and Bury Adult Learning Service) ? Plan and prepare for successful interviews and improve own interview performance ? How personal information and personal achievements can be effectively presented, including telephone situations, job applications, and CVs ? Improving team working skills ? Input from Citizen’s Advice Bureau on debt management ? First aid – one day appointed person course
