This course sets a standard for educational opportunities and support services for autistic students with complex needs in Newham. It is designed for students who are aged over 16 and is offered to help them: - develop skills through the use of assertive technologies. - enable self-advocacy and independence to underpin learning. This course contributes to the economic well being of students. There will be a focus on independence and employability skills to help you achieve your goals. There are work experience opportunities and/or team based projects, which are aimed at sustainable employment initiatives. Our specialist autism centre facilitates the needs and wants of students doing courses such as Focus. It is an integral part of the College facilitating opportunities for inclusion within the wider College community. Our facilities are geared towards creative learning with impressive multi-use open spaces and purpose built rooms that reflect a wide scope of learning and support activities, including food preparation, ILCT, art and distraction free spaces for quiet reflection. The environment, that we provide encourages creative projects and develops independence, creative expression and skills. This course consists of a carefully structured curriculum that meets both the learning and emotional requirements of our students. Classroom spaces are designed around themes such as art, work preparation, creative movement, employability, vocational skills, music, media, family support and liaison.
