Film Studies AS/A2

UPDATED 20161124 15:41:27

In AS Film Studies, you will have the opportunity to develop your appreciation and understanding of film as both the dominant art form of the 20th Century, and as a commercial business. You will engage with various differing types of film (such as Horror and 'Teen' film); deconstructing texts to explore how films create meaning for an audience. You will also create your own films as part of your coursework, culminating in a 'cinema evening' where students (and guests) will have the opportunity to see their films on the 'big screen'. You may also be able to participate in a variety of activities that will enhance your study, such as entering films for national and local competitions, and participating in educational visits and events. In A2 Film Studies, you will deepen your knowledge and understanding of film, with particular focus on how various factors, such as cultural expectation, institutional requirements and artistic vision, will shape a particular film text. You will also broaden your knowledge of cinema, beginning to consider film that lies outside the norm of 'mainstream' commercial film. You may also be able to participate in a variety of activities that will enhance your study, such as entering films for national and local competitions, and participating in educational visits.
