This Art for Life course is a referral course for people who have have been referred by their docter and feel the course would benefit the student in recovery from an illness such as • Mental health. There is strong evidence that seeing an artist reduces depression scores and re-admission rates for psychiatric patients is reduced if they engage with an artist. Post natal depression has been improved significantly by art and group work. • Elderly and/or socially isolated. This group of people benefit greatly from seeing an artist. There are significant benefits proven by studies. • Carers may appreciate art as a respite time. This is a short course which will enable students to develop their creative abilities. The course will introduce them to basic art techniques and different materials. Students will be taught to draw and paint simple objects which are easily available. Teaching will be carried out through demonstration and individual instruction. All materials will be provided.
