Primary teachers work with children between the ages of three and eleven and teach all of the subjects in the national curriculum. Primary school teachers are expected to demonstrate a sound, basic knowledge of all the subjects in the curriculum for key stages 1 and 2 and they are expected to have at least a basic knowledge of all the subjects in the national curriculum, including Maths, English and Science. By choosing to study in this academy you will give yourself a great opportunity to develop the skills, experience and understanding you need to make a positive contribution to the lives of children in your care. Of course following successful completion of this course you will be expected to progress to University to achieve the degree necessary to become a trainee Teacher. We recommend strongly that you start from your earliest opportunity to research progression into HE as different institutions are currently requiring different qualifications for entering into this sector. Specifically this course is for those aged 16-18 who wish to enter employment potentially to work with children from three to seven (Key Stage 1). The course also provides learners who successfully pass all the requirements of the qualification with a licence to practise, allowing them to undertake work in a child centred environment should they choose that progression to HE is not ultimately what they want to do. The course work is varied, involving case studies, written assignments, external assessments and practical and group work in class. Areas that are covered may include: - Protecting children - Promoting children's rights - Children's learning activities and play - Promoting children's development - Positive relationships for children's care, learning and development - Positive environments for children's care, learning and development
