Developing skills for Listening to Children - Entry level Who is the course for? This course is suitable for learners who wish to learn about how to improve listening to children in order to understand and support their needs. It is suitable for parents/carers supporting their own children and people who work with children. What can I expect to learn? Learners will understand the value and benefit of actively listening to children and to help them feel confident when supporting children’s needs and cover the following areas: The value and benefits of active listening in a range of situations with children Giving children attention Helpful and appropriate questioning Understanding children’s feelings and needs An introduction to child development and communication. How will I learn? Sessions will be friendly and informal. Learners will collect the evidence by completion of class tasks and assignments. Learners will take part in large and small group work, practical activities and assignments and will produce a portfolio (folder) of coursework. You will also use the internet in our centres to research some activities How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will look at all the work you produce through class activities, assignments and practical activities. Every time you receive your work back the tutor will have given you some feedback about it so will always know how well you are doing. The work all goes towards your portfolio which is continually assessed. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? Learners will normally have to do around an hour of homework each week. This may include use of the internet for research purposes. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) There will be a charge to register you with the awarding body. Please check with your local ACE Centre
