Upholstery – Beginners How will this course help me? Learners will be guided through the practical reconstruction of a simple piece of traditional / modern upholstery of their own choosing. Who is the course for? This course is for anyone interested in learning basic upholstery skills. An introduction to developing skills in the processes involved in traditional and modern upholstery construction. What can I expect to Learn? Sessions are practical and learners will develop knowledge of tools, equipment, modern and traditional materials. You will apply techniques and processes to a personal project. You will learn how to cut, how to strip out, upholstery reconstruction, measuring, estimating and applying top cover. Learners will approach all aspects of work with appropriate Health and Safety guidelines in mind. How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. You tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Some equipment from the home tool kit will be useful; a selection of tools may be borrowed at class. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.)Some materials may be bought through class if desired. Learners will be asked to purchase project specific sundries themselves (e.g. fabric, wood adhesive, wood finishes etc.).
