Patchwork and Quilting Who is the course for? This course is for you if you want to learn, develop or maintain Patchwork & Quilting skills. It is suitable for beginners to the subject and those with some experience. What can I expect to Learn? A variety of techniques will be used. Patchwork – English & seamed piecing, crazy patchwork, log cabin. Appliqué – turned edge, raw edge, reverse, decorated. Quilting – traditional patterns, big stitch, tied. Discover the work of professional quilters. The history of patchwork and quilting. There will be an emphasis on recycling old clothes and fabrics. How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. You tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? It would be useful to bring a basic hand sewing kit, notebook and pencil and some cotton fabric to the first session. Your tutor will discuss individual projects with you at the first session & advise you about the materials you will require. Will there be any other costs? Learners will be expected to meet the cost of materials required for their individual projects.You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. What can I do next? You may wish to come on some of our other textile & craft courses or progress on to a course with a qualification.
