Introduction to Lace Making How will this course help me? You will gain the basic skills & confidence to create a piece of lace. Who is the course for? Those who are new to the subject or those with limited experience. What can I expect to learn? Explore the historical background to lace making Basic resources required to produce a piece of lace Basic lace making techniques e.g. Torchon Work through samples & small items, adding skills as proficiency develops Health & Safety. How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. If you think that you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the centre staff. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Notebook and pen. Learners will be responsible for providing their own resources. Your tutor will advise you on purchases at the first session. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. Learners will be responsible for providing their own resources. What can I do next? You may want to come on some of our other courses or to progress on to a Developing Lace Making Skills Workshop. Discuss your next steps with your tutor or the Centre staff.
