Making Clothes – All Ability How will this course help me? You will develop practical skills in all aspects of making clothes and confidence to produce garments. Who is the course for? This course is for beginners or if you have some experience in sewing/clothes making. What can I expect to learn? Choosing suitable fabrics Understanding patterns Cutting out garments Sewing basics – stitches, seams and finishing How to use a sewing machine (in some centres you will also learn how to use an over locker) Decorative techniques Health and safety aspects How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. You tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Bring a notebook, pen, tape measure and basic sewing kit if you have one. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. All of the costs of this course are covered in the advertised course fee. What can I do next? You may wish to progress onto the variety of Get Creative courses that are available.
