DIY for women How will this course help me? You will be able to learn basic DIY skills and techniques in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Who is the course for? Women with little or no experience of DIY What can I expect to learn? Course content will be discussed with the tutor, and learners can bring their own suggestions. Possible topics may include: Sawing and cutting techniques on metal, wood and plastics Drilling holes, fixing and joining materials together, securing to different wall types Basic plumbing Bedroom design Flat pack furniture Flooring, skirting boards, architraves Putting up shelves Improving energy efficiency How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Please wear old/work clothes or overalls and strong footwear. Other personal protective equipment such as gloves or safety glasses will be provided as required. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.? You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. All of the costs of this course are covered in the advertised course fee.
