Introduction to basket making How will this course help me? You will get a taste for traditional weaving techniques and make a small round willow basket. Who is the course for? People with no previous experience of basket making What can I expect to learn? How to make a base for a basket How to stake up A couple of different weaves How to put down a border. How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Please wear work clothes. If you have a sharp knife (like an Opinel), or a good pair of secateurs, please bring these with you too, though tools will be provided. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.? You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. All of the costs of this course are covered in the advertised course fee. What can I do next? You may wish to progress on to further basket making courses or other coppice crafts courses.
