This was formally the National Certificate and is a 12 unit course which is aimed at people who want to be on the professional side of the industry, i.e. technician role supporting the professionals (technicians, junior/trainee quantity surveyor etc.). The six mandatory units are as follows: • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment • Sustainable construction • Maths in Construction and the Built Environment • Science and materials in Construction and the Built Environment • Construction technology and design in Construction and civil engineering • Building technology in Construction Some of the optional units are: • Project Management in Construction • Measurement Estimating and Tendering • Building Surveying • Building Regulations and Control • Computer Aided Design for Construction • Property Law • Conversion and Adaptations of Buildings You will learn ? The construction career paths and job roles within the Construction and Built Environment industries ? Much of your coursework will require you to carry out research, analyse your findings, and then present a word-processed report and/or presentations to the group ? You should take many photographs and video to aid presentation ? You will learn a detailed approach to design and project management ? Research and technical information including scientific and quantity calculations ? All of the course time will be spent on academic coursework related to realistic and practical projects ? At least 50% of the course time will be applied to activities on coursework projects Plus the following specialist units (these may alter subject to demand) • Measuring Tendering and Estimating Process • ICT and CAD Where will I study?
