How long is the course? This course runs for 36 weeks on Mondays, 11.00am - 6.00pm. The course has two start dates per year: • Monday 1 September 2014 or • Monday 2 March 2015 You need to hold a minimum of three GCSEs at grade D or above. You will also have to undertake an initial assessment screening test and should have a genuine interest in pursuing barbering as a career. Personal presentation plays a very important part in the process of becoming a competent barber. You should also possess creative skills and an interest in fashion. Genuine enthusiasm for working towards gaining skills to become a competent barber is also necessary. You should enjoy communication with members of the general public and should have a commitment to intensive training. Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme What will I study? This is an intensive training programme allowing you to obtain an NVQ Diploma level 2. You will study the following units: • Follow health and safety practice in the salon • Advise and consult with clients • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp • Promote additional services and products to clients • Cut hair using barbering techniques • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques • Dry and finish men’s hair • Create basic patterns in the hair You will also be required to participate in compulsory in-house College competitions.
