A printing process popularized by early photographers, cyanotype uses a light sensitive solution and exposure to ultraviolet light to create distinctive, vivid Prussian blue prints. For artists and designers wishing to experiment with unique, traditional printing methods on cloth and paper.

Entry requirements

Please note, the college will supply fabric that has been pre-treated with the cyanotype solution, as it needs to be dried thoroughly before use. You may wish to bring the following:, • Interesting objects, which can be used to make shapes on the cloth/paper (for example leaves, flowers, shapes cut out of black paper, pebbles, shells, bottle tops etc), • Black drawing/painting materials (it must be black/opaque for your print to work), • Acetate/tracing paper, • Brushes/pens/pencils, • An apron, • Students wishing to print onto paper will need to bring a specially treated paper that responds well to this method of printing. Somerset Satin and Saunders Waterford papers are ideal.
