Explore through Print: Part 4 - Reduction Linocut

The Printed PitchInspired by the rich history of the analogue printed poster and the hand made flyer, this module will introduce students to multi-block wood cut printmaking, montage that combines multiple print processes’s through unique or editioned prints and from low-tech photocopy manipulation, to contemporary digital outputs. The group will also visit pertinent exhibitions and/or gallery collections.Students will learn how to prepare art work on several blocks, how to control and cut the block, inking and how to register in order that all the colours and text register successfully. Students are encouraged to experiment with different colour combinations, scale and typography, incorporating both text and imagery into artwork. The aim is to produce an edition of work in posters, flyer or invitation format by the end of this the 5 weeks.. This course is suitable for both the novice and the more experienced printmaker.

Entry requirements

Please bring: pencils, pens, paintbrushes, paper, sketchbooks, Printouts of images that interest you, sketches of ideas., Protective clothing is provided, or you can bring your own apron and rubber gloves. The course fee includes most studio consumables (ink, solvents etc) but you will have to pay for paper, etching plates/ lino blocks etc. These are available to buy in the department at cost price.
