First Certificate in English (FCE)

This course will prepare you for the five parts of the FCE exam: listening and speaking, reading, writing and use of English. The FCE is an internationally recognised English language qualification. If you would like to talk to an EFL advisor, contact the department at essentialskills@morleycollege.ac.uk, , The FCE teacher will prepare a range of materials to suit both individual and group needs. You will practise speaking in different ways, such as doing presentations, summarising, paraphrasing, articulating opinions and debating a point of view. You will develop your formal and informal writing ability in different contexts. You will refine your reading and listening skills for overall meaning and detail. You will be expected to work hard and be given regular homework to help practise for the exam. , , Not all students who attend this course will be ready to take the exam by the end of the term. Students progress at different speeds and some take longer than others to achieve the appropriate level. , , Please note that the exam will not be taken at Morley College and we have no involvement in the application to take the exam or receiving of results. You will need to apply to one of the Cambridge approved centres directly for the exam. There are 19 centres in London. The test typically costs £110. You should discuss applying for the test with your teacher within the first two or three weeks of the course.
