Pattern Cutting for Menswear

If you have completed a beginner’s course or the equivalent, this intermediate level project-based course offers you a structured programme to further develop your skills in the production of patterns for menswear. Learning further manipulation techniques to produce a range of garment features and styles will increase your confidence as a pattern cutter. This course is also useful if you wish to develop a portfolio with the intention to going on to higher education., , You will draft patterns using a different standard size block each term: autumn – trousers, spring – tops including shirts, summer – jackets. Each term exists as a separate course and can be taken as such although enrolment on more than one will build your knowledge and skills to a more advanced level. To achieve the learning outcomes each term, you must complete modules 1 and 2., , To benefit from this course, you must have completed at three terms of pattern cutting at beginner’s level, one of which must be the bodice block.,

Entry requirements

• paper scissors, • a basic sewing kit: fabric scissors, dressmaker’s pins, tape measure, tracing wheel, • sewing threads, • notepad and 2/3 colour pens, HB pencil, sharpener and eraser, • A4 ring binder file, Also:, • ‘Metric Pattern Cutting for Menswear’ by Winifred Aldrich is the reference book used on the course.
