Edward Bawden was a master of producing works in lino-cut, known to have taken prints with his feet by standing on top of the printing plates and paper! In this class students will learn how to create prints that have the visually stunning characteristics of Bawden, through a more comfortable and reliable manner using the beautiful relief presses at Morley College. Bawden’s work crossed the fine art/ design divide. He produced stand alone paintings and prints, works for corporations and clients within advertising, and designed a great number of patterns that were printed in repeat., , During Bawden’s varied career he spent time as a war correspondent in Africa, producing imagery that consolidated his artistic reputation. Inspired by Bawden’s career, students will use pattern from African textile design as a starting point. These images will be printed individually and collectively to produce designs that are not only beautiful, but whose content resonates with contemporary global issues. , , Bawden had a link to Morley College, and to link with this print workshop there is a show of his work in the Morley Gallery during November. Join this course to explore his work and multi colour Lino cuts.,
