Digital Media Foundation in Filmmaking

Through a series of projects in documentary, narrative and digital media production, this part-time 1-year course will teach you the key elements of filmmaking from research and planning, to storyboarding, shooting, sound recording, postproduction and editing.This foundation level course provides an excellent introduction for those who want to build skills in film and video production, and explore creative approaches in a range of practical projects. Provides an overview for working in different genres and forms including documentary, narrative and drama, music promos, art film and experimental media. Each term will focus on a particular area of production: Term 1 – Documentary Production, Basic Production Skills; Term 2 – Narrative Production, Creative Cinematography; Term 3 – Digital Media Production, Post Production Techniques. Students will work as part of a group on projects, and be able to develop skills and knowledge across a range of production roles. Students will be able to gain understanding of the medium through discussion and analysis of work in global cinema, video and moving image art. Hands on learning with digital equipment including HD cameras, Apple computers, with support of tutors who are industry practitioners. Software is Adobe Premiere Pro. Camera and essential video equipment provided. Students should have their own portable hard drives (minimum 50GB).Suitable for beginners and/or those with some experience. The course provides an ideal foundation in film and video making for those wishing to progress to further or higher education, and/or develop skills for employment or own practice. Students who successfully complete the course will receive Morley Certificate in Filmmaking.
