Access courses help you get a second chance in education. They are a way of gaining the entry requirements needed to progress onto university level study or to re-start your career. They aim to build confidence, develop study and written skills and offer you the opportunity to improve your Maths and English. The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a one year course. You attend two workshops per week in order to study the mandatory modules and to receive tutorial support. This will mean attending College for 14.5 hours per week and depending on your unit choice, this may spread over the full week. You will also need to be prepared to study for a further 12 hours in your personal time.You could also take the two year study option by completing a Level 2 course first.CostsIn some cases, tuition fees will be paid for you depending on individual circumstances. You may be able to get financial support from the Learner Support Fund. This fund can help students with the cost of course materials, equipment, travel costs and childcare costs. You need to be aware that if you are aged 24+ you may be required to apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.
