Floristry techniques - taster course - beginners

This six session taster course is an ideal introduction for anyone who is either considering training for a new career, enrolling onto a more in depth course or simply wants to learn a range of skills for personal use and enjoyment. It will focus on three key design areas of professional Floristry, with two practical sessions devoted to each : wedding design, funeral design and decorative or gift work. The range of designs to be covered will include the following : wired and hand tied bridal work such as a buttonhole, bridal bouquet and table design, a spray and wreath for funeral use and a £designer£ style gift bouquet and arrangement. You will identify and use both traditional and contemporary construction techniques, and will work with a wide range of flower materials, equipment and accessories. Advice will also be given on how to select, buy and condition fresh materials.

Entry requirements

You will need to bring your own flowers & foliage for each session, in addition to some florist's materials that are not covered by the basic fee. The approximate cost will be £15-20 per week, depending on the design being made. You will also need a pair of strong scissors with sharp blades. You will need to bring materials the first session of the course- and you will be contacted by letter to conform what these will be. If you have not been contacted by letter, please contact the Curriculum Leader or centre for a materials requirements list.
