Clothesmaking - improvers

On this course you will develop your skills in garment construction and adaptations for style and fit. You will learn the key processes of clothesmaking: cutting out, piecing together, fitting, stitching, pressing, the correct and safe use of tools and equipment, understanding and adapting commercially made patterns, choosing styles and suitable fabrics and exploring decorative techniques. You will sample a variety of techniques throughout the course, in addition to working on garments of your choice. In 20 weeks, learners should be able to make 1-3 garments depending upon your level of skill. Learners with more experience will select more complex garments with advice from the tutor.

Entry requirements

You will need to bring a Basic Sewing Kit to include dressmaking pins, needles, tape measure, fabric cutting out scissors, threads ( if you are buying these items from scratch they will cost approximately £25-30). You will also need to purchase a commercial garment pattern (costing approx. £4), and fabric & trimmings to make the garment of your choice- these will vary in price according to the quantity and quality of materials purchased.
