An introduction to the healing properties of plants, their use as remedies in the treatment of some common ailments, and how to safely employ a range of basic preparations for internal and external use. The course covers: Plants and people and a brief history of herbal medicine. Where to buy herbs, which books, terminology, herb tasting and examining. Basic herbal preparations and recipies for home remedies. Herbal immune support and how herbs support the body. Take away some useful recipes for colds and flu. Supporting the digestive system, useful herbs for common digestive complaints, the importance of your liver and how to support it. Supportive herbs for the nervous system, how diet and lifestyle can influence the health of the nervous system. Useful herbs for herbal first aid. Treating stings, cuts, bruises, sprains, coughs, stomach upsets. 1. Describe how to make a herbal infusion: the parts of the plant used and how to use it therapeutically. 2. List 5 medicinal plants and one action for each. 3. Describe how to make a decoction and name the parts of the plants used. 4. Name two food items that can be used therapeutically

Name: Herbalism for Beginners Qualification title: - Qualification type: No qualification Assessment Lectures, class discussion, group exercises. We will try a different herbal tea each week and discuss what we can find out about the tea from our own senses.
