Gentle Yoga and Meditation

A gentle class accessible to all, to improve posture, core strength, balance, strength, flexibility, and calm the mind. This is a gentle class suitable for all levels: students wishing to be introduced to the practice of yoga and/or those wishing to develop a slower and mindful practice. Each class will include gentle yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breath manipulation practices), a long guided relaxation period, and concentration/meditation techniques. WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER ------------------------------------------------------------------ The class will include: - An initial relaxation period - Pranayama (breath awareness practices) - Sun Salutations - A sequence of gentle Asanas (postures) - A final guided relaxation - An introduction to concentration & meditation practice Philosophy and principles of yogic practice will be woven into the class - Have increased body awareness - Have increased, strength, flexibility, core stability and balance - Have a better understanding of the workings of your physical and energetic body - Ability to recognise the signs of stress and tension and use yogic techniques to relieve these symptoms - Ability to concentrate the mind /meditate for short amount of time (if practiced daily) - Have a general understanding of the philosophical principles of the yogic practice These learning outcomes are reliant upon regular practice, effort and a willingness to meet these objectives, experiment and try to apply yogic practices in daily life. WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE ------------------------------------------------------------------ - A medical checklist needs to be filled by all on the first session - Physical demonstration, oral explanations and hands-on adjustments of postures - Variations of postures will be given as required by individual needs - Occasional hand-outs will be given when relevant and helpful for home practice
