This course offers a solid foundation in the biological, chemical and physical sciences with a strong focus on medical applications of science. If you have a keen interest in medical science this course will enable you to further your knowledge in this area. This is a vocational course with a practical, hands-on approach to learning which will enable you to develop the laboratory skills necessary to continue your studies at university or to move into employment in a science/medical career. The course is made up of 18 units and looks at science in relation to various medical applications. You will be assessed by a variety of methods including writing scientific articles, posters, presentations, case studies and discussions. Many of the units involve practical investigations and are assessed by the building of a portfolio of scientific reports. Examples of units to be studied include: Scientific investigations Physiology of Human Body systems Medical Physics Techniques Biomedical Science Techniques Practical Chemical Analysis The course offers a range of additional activities including visits to university and industrial laboratories. A key focus of the course is the development of skills, such as practical laboratory skills, but also you will develop team-building skills and can take part in enterprise activities within Loughborough College. During the course there is guidance for progression to university or employment to help you make the right decision about your future.
