Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Animal Management

The College offers the opportunity to study at level 3 (A level equivalent) for students who wish to develop a comprehensive understanding of animal management and biology - encompassing practical techniques, academic knowledge and technical skills. It is a popular option for both school leavers and successful Level 2 Diploma students. The course incorporates a mix of practicals, classroom lectures, industry visits and case study exercises. Students enjoy the wide variety of theory and practical subjects combined with a range of projects and assessments. Students will also receive training and assessment in a large range of additional qualifications, which will enhance their employability.A work experience placement takes place one day per week and visits to animal related enterprises form an integral part of the course. The course prepares students for supervisory and junior management positions in the animal industry or for progression to a range of Higher Education degree and foundation degree courses. Applicants for all courses in Animal Studies are expected to show a strong commitment to the industry and a strong personal statement. Relevant work experience in the Animal Care industry (a minimum of two weeks in duration) will have been completed with a satisfactory reference in support of that work. Industrial / Work Experience:Students must attend a relevant placement in the animal industry, for example, veterinary practice, boarding kennel, pet retail organisation or canine grooming parlour.The placement is carried out each Monday in the first year of the course.For second year students the work placement takes place each Friday. Employment opportunities in Animal Management and its related industries are currently very good. The Subsidiary, Diploma and Extended Diploma Animal Management provide the qualification and experience for entry into the industry. A protective boiler suit for animal practical work must be purchased from the Animal Academy at the start of the Academic Year. Laboratory coats / wellingtons / waterproof jacket are also required.
