You will cover a wide range of units in food preparation, cooking, serving food and drink plus Functional Skills. Most learning takes place within the various training and production kitchens and restaurants within the College. This is supplemented with theory lessons which underpin and embed the knowledge required at this level. You will also have a tutorial session each week with a personal tutor during which time counselling is available for pastoral or course work problems. After successful completion of this course you could progress to the Level 2 Professional Chef Award or into the industry as a trainee or junior role. This course is aimed at those who wish to progress to a Level 2 qualification or employment in a related area.

A clean pressed chefs uniform in the kitchen. A clean pressed shirt or blouse with the correct food service uniform when training in the restaurants. Casual day wear for theory classes. The initial uniform and equipment cost is approximately £200. Throughout the course there are a variety of educational visits both in this country and in Europe. Many of the trips are subsidised but you will be expected to make some contribution towards their cost.
