$L5 HND in Acting

UPDATED 20140305 03:47:03

Studying Acting at Stratford-upon-Avon College will engage students in some of the most challenging work they will have done to date. Our aim is to prepare students for the next stage of their career, be it higher level study at a drama school or university, or entering into employment. Through a combination of theory and practice-based classes, our highly qualified and industry experienced staff take students through the basics of physical and vocal training to more advanced levels of performance in improvisation, devising, contemporary and classical text. Skills, experience and knowledge will be built throughout the programme of study. Year one initially concentrates on the individual - students are encouraged to explore their own abilities, develop a strong foundation in performance technique and understand the wider performing arts area so as to enhance employability. The second year develops this knowledge and experience, providing a number of opportunities for outward facing project work. Students are challenged to push themselves to the full combining all elements of their study and understanding from taking an active and essential role in the production team through to public performance work, writing and devising material for performance and leading workshops. The idea of the ensemble is central to our approach, creating a company ethos where experimentation and risk-taking can take place, and where imaginative and creative responses are encouraged. At all times the work is kept allied to an understanding of the theories associated with any particular piece of work and/or associated practitioner. Creativity is explored through acting, scriptwriting, storytelling and innovative theatre projects. Our close links with the industry including the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham Hippodrome afford our students unique opportunities.
